Exposed new markets in image processing
A fabless firm in image processing was being squeezed in the mobile market space. With limited resources and time, cash generating new markets were needed, while development continued on a new chip.
An evaluation of a segment within the embedded systems space was identified, and evaluated for time from engagement to mass production, pricing sensitivity, volumes and sustained volumes. With the approval of the Board, this market segment was then targeted.
A mini-ecosystem was created, from design houses to ODMs, coupled with direct customer action. Sales were generated with 10X ~ 15X the original gross margin, with products that continued to ship for a few years.
The company was able to use this new market knowledge, expand into adjacent markets, develop a new chip, and was eventually acquired.
